Kuwait to Monitor Shiite Mosques: Official

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The Kuwait Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs will monitor Shiite mosques, but there was no legislation nor law obliging the Ministry to monitor the mourning houses of Shiites, a senior ministry official said Tuesday.Undersecretary Dr Adel Al-Falah, speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a ceremony to honor winners of the Holy Quran competition, said that the ministry has been debating the monitoring of Shiite mosques for a long time now.He claimed that this has been in coordination with members of the Shiite community. “Mourning houses (Husseiniyyas) are not classified as worshipping sites and the Ministry’s Charter of the Mosque does not apply on them,” he said.The ministry, he added, was considering covering the expenses of Shiite mosques, as it does with Sunni mosques. “We want to complete this project with the Kuwaiti people, who are known for their forgiving nature and diplomatic ways in finding compromises.”The ministry, said Al-Falah, was in the process of applying the rules and regulations used in Sunni mosques to the Shiite mosques./129
